Slow Love

I spoke to the wonderful people at Slow Living Magazine about my design inspiration and the in's and out's or sustainable production.

Sampling featuring our studio kitty cat Louis :)

Elle Evans produces sustainable, low-impact swimwear for those who care about fashion and the future.

Elle Evans Swimwear began when at age four I took a pair of worn out bathers -handed down through older cousins and sisters and now destined for the rag bin- and made a one-piece for my doll Anna.

These beautiful messy mermaids are some of my favourite people ever! We had a chat about my new collection and I got deep talking about why I do what I do.

Thanks for the words beauties xx

Elle Evans* sustainable swimwear is one of our favorite swim brands because of the innovative designs & care for the environment. We asked this girl boss about what inspires her and what it’s like running her own company.

Anything but standard.

Sizing in the fashion industry is a well-picked topic; it has been discussed, reviewed and altered for decades. Poor little Australia has had no National Standard Sizing Regulations (for adult clothing at least) since 2007 -when the Australian Standard Sizing Regulations (established in 1959!) were deemed irrelevant and scrapped.

This has obviously been a little problematic for you O consumer! I’m sure all of you have a multitude of different sizes in your wardrobe: Smalls, 10’s, 12’s, Mediums, Open size’s all of which fit you perfectly? While this can be annoying -having to take three different sizes into the change room just to find the right size- there is a positive flip side…

To the sea...

Being by the sea with nothing to distract me but a good book and litres of watermelon juice has made me pensive...

The sea always sparks something elemental, some ancient feeling in me; I want nothing more than to be one with the water, hands pushed deep into the sand, and the sun slowly lightening my hair and darkening my skin. I honestly feel that I am where I'm supposed to be when I am in the ocean.

Perhaps it is the humbling size of the thing that forces me in to such an awed state. I imagine astronauts to have similar feelings. But the sea is different, you can look upon space and feel separate from it, insignificant in its vastness, look upon the ocean and you feel part of this giant body of water, you immediately feel it's pull, you run in fact to meet its waves as they beckon you in to join them. You can't help but feel significant in the oceans fold.

Sustainable Fashion –The truth is out there

What do you think of when some says the phase “sustainable fashion”? Hemp? Bamboo? Beige asymmetrical tunics that your high-school art teacher would have worn?

Well, unfortunately the buzz-word that is sustainability is thrown around all too often. While those stereotypically ‘sustainable’ fabrics or garments do perhaps  have a small footprint they surely don't draw a full and well rounded picture of what sustainability is and what it means to lovers of all things chic.
